How to Disable or Turn off Windows 10 Game Bar Pop-Up and Notifications
Microsoft has been improving Game Bar, which now offers a more satisfying experience. However, the constant pop-up notifications during gameplay are distracting and annoying. To enhance the enjoyment of gaming, it is recommended to turn off these notifications from Game Bar. These notifications provide tips and tricks on using Game Bar and Game Mode, which may be helpful for beginners. However, once you are already familiar with these tips, seeing them repeatedly becomes unnecessary. Fortunately, there are methods to disable these pop-up notifications in Windows 10.
1. Disable Game Bar Notifications from Settings
No need to open a game before changing Game Bar settings. Press Windows key+G on your keyboard to open Game Bar. It worked on my desktop but not when the browser was open. This could be because different apps have different shortcuts assigned. Click the Settings icon in the upper toolbar.

Can you see a Notifications tab there? I can’t, but it should be there if you haven’t upgraded to the latest version of Windows. Click on it to configure the pop-up notifications you want to see or hide.

2. What Happened to Game Mode Notifications
Microsoft wants you to disable Game Mode notifications that often pop up when you start a game. Maybe if enough users complained, the company might listen.
Depending on your version of Windows, this may or may not work for you.
On your computer, press Windows key+I to open Settings and click on Gaming.
In the sidebar, check if there is an option for “Get Game Mode notifications” under Game Mode. If it’s there, turn it off. If not, you have the latest version of Windows. The option should be right below the Game Mode toggle switch.
If you really want that option, you can restore your computer to a previous point in time, but eventually, you will have to upgrade.
3. Registry Tweak
If the option has disappeared, there is a registry tweak that works for several users. Press Windows+R keys to open Run command, type regedit, and hit Enter.
Drill down to the folder structure:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\GameBar
Right-click in the right window-pane to create a new DWORD 32-bit Value file and name it “TurnOffGameBarNotifications”.
To disable Game Bar notifications, simply open the file. Enter “0” to disable them or “1” to enable them. Save the file by clicking OK.
Create another DWORD 32-bit Value file named ‘ShowGameModeNotifications’ and set the value to 0 to disable Game Mode notifications. If anything is not working properly or something breaks, delete the two DWORD files you created one by one and reboot to recheck.
Game Bar, Game Mode, and Microsoft Xbox have evolved significantly, offering an array of features. However, it seems unnecessary for Microsoft to assume that all gamers are amateurs. We typically prefer to enjoy uninterrupted gameplay without constant notifications. Nevertheless, we hold a positive opinion of Microsoft and Xbox.
