How to Disable Notifications While Playing Games on Android
Imagine playing an intensive game on your Android, aiming at your enemy. Just as you’re about to pull the trigger for the kill shot, a notification pops up on the screen, causing you to miss your target and get shot instead. Oh, the horror!
Most new phones have a built-in Game Mode that allows you to snooze notifications and block calls while gaming. Simply enable it to eliminate distractions. If your phone doesn’t have this feature, there are two methods you can use to enjoy uninterrupted gaming.
The first method automates the process of enabling the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode when you launch your gaming apps. The second method is a manual process, but with a slight variation.
Method 1: Using MacroDroid
This method utilizes an automation app called MacroDroid, which is comparable to Tasker. However, MacroDroid has a user-friendly interface, making it easy to create scripts and tasks. If you understand the job’s structure, you can simply create a flowchart and replicate it in MacroDroid.
Similar to other macros, you need a trigger or action to activate the macro. For our case, activating the DND mode is the action, and launching the game app is the trigger.
Here’s how to automate the task of disabling notifications while gaming:
Step 1: Add a trigger by tapping on “Add Macro.” Then, select Applications > Application Launched/Closed > Application Launched.
Select game names from the list. Just check the boxes and click OK.
Step 2: Add the action. Tap on the Actions tab, scroll down, and select Volume. Choose the first option (Priority Mode/Do Not Disturb).
To enable Priority Notifications in MacroDroid, follow these steps:
1. Open the app and tap on the “Add Macro” button.
2. Choose the “Application” trigger and select the game you want to enable Priority Notifications for.
3. Add an “Action” and select “Notification Settings.”
4. In the Notification Settings, enable the “Allow Priority Notifications” option and tap “OK” when prompted.
5. Name the macro and save it.
Now, whenever you launch the game, your phone will automatically switch to the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. It’s that simple!
This method is incomplete without switching back to normal mode after stopping any game. We need a second macro for this switch, which will be the reverse of the first one.
Step 4: To create the second macro, tap on Add Macro. Instead of creating an application launch event, create an app close event. Tap on Triggers > Applications > Application Launched/Closed > Application Closed and select the games again.
Step 5: Tap on Actions, scroll to Volume and Priority Mode, and select Allow All.
Step 6: Save the macro and give it a name. From now on, when you play, there will be no notifications to disturb you.
Pro Tip:
To ensure a smooth process, remember to remove MacroDroid from the Battery Optimized app list. Inactive apps or those that drain the battery are automatically closed by the system to conserve power.
To optimize battery usage, go to phone settings > Battery > Battery Optimization. Find MacroDroid and select Don’t Optimize.
Another thing to keep in mind is that MacroDroid inherits your phone’s DND mode. So if your phone’s DND mode includes heads-up notifications during messages and calls, then MacroDroid won’t be able to do much.
To view your phone’s DND settings, search for Do Not Disturb in Settings and check the settings for Calls, Sounds, and Notifications. The ideal settings should be None for calls and No Visuals for notifications.
Once these settings are in place, you can enjoy a distraction-free gaming session.
Method 2: Through Focusbot
Focusbot is an app that blocks and mutes notifications while enabled. Additionally, it bundles notifications for later viewing.
This app offers convenient customization features. The AutoReply feature allows you to send a text message for every missed call or text during a specific time period.
The app is for those seeking peace of mind in this chaotic world. And what better way to maximize an app than by achieving two objectives conveniently? Once set up, simply tap the Focus ON button to start gaming. When you switch off Focus mode, all notifications will appear in the app for you to review.
Game Away
Notifications are important in smart systems. However, they can be distracting, especially during gaming sessions. These methods will reduce interruptions and diversions. Speaking of games, have you downloaded PUBG wallpapers for your PC and phones?
