How to Change a Tumblr URL on Desktop, Android, and iOS
When you signed up for your Tumblr blog, you probably chose a cool name. But over time, you realized it doesn’t sound great. What do you do now?
You can create a new Tumblr blog with a fresh URL quickly. But what if you already have many followers you don’t want to lose?
Fortunately, Tumblr remains awesome, allowing you to quickly and easily change your URL whenever you want.
Things to Keep in Mind
You’re eager to change your URL, but hold on! Before you proceed, there are some things to consider.
First, if someone else has already taken the name you want, you can’t use it. However, inactive URLs on Tumblr do become available after a while, so you can periodically check if you’re lucky.
Secondly, changing your URL will break any existing inbound links, which is problematic if you rely on reblogged posts for traffic. However, any content already posted on your blog should remain unaffected.
Finally, you won’t lose followers when changing your URL. However, they might unfollow if your new name is unrecognizable, so make sure to communicate your intentions beforehand. Ready? Let’s go!
Changing the URL (AKA Username)
Tumblr mixes up the username and URL for a blog. This applies to both primary and secondary blogs, so don’t get confused. You can change your blog’s URL on desktop or using the Android or iOS Tumblr apps. Let’s start with Tumblr on desktop and then cover the mobile versions.
Desktop
Step 1: On your Tumblr dashboard, click the Account icon, select Settings.
Step 2: Choose a blog from under the Blogs section.
Step 3: Click the pencil icon next to Username.
Step 4: Insert your new URL into the Username field and click Save.
That’s it! You’ve successfully changed your URL.
Note:
Android
Step 1: Tap the Account icon on the Tumblr dashboard. Use the pull-down menu to select a blog, then click the Settings icon. On the subsequent screen, tap Change Username.
Step 2: Insert your new URL into the field under ‘What do you want to be called?’
Tap Save to apply the changes.
Cool Tip:
Review the provided text and eliminate redundant words or phrases to improve conciseness and impact. Look for repetitive ideas, unnecessary adjectives, and phrases that can be simplified without losing meaning. Enhance readability and clarity while maintaining the original tone. Remember not to use the restricted words listed above at the start of sentences.
iOS
To review text, follow these steps on the Tumblr dashboard:
1. Tap the Account icon.
2. Select a blog.
Step 2: Tap the gear icon, then click Change Username.
Step 3: Insert a new URL into the field under ‘What do you want to be called?’ There’s no Save option to apply the changes. Just tap Return on the onscreen keyboard and you should be good.
