2 Best Ways to Create a Poll on Discord for Desktop and Mobile
Creating a poll on Discord is a quick and easy way to gather input from friends, family, or a community. Polls save time and prevent miscommunication. You can gauge the interest of community members on certain topics using votes and reactions. There are two ways to create a poll: emojis reactions or a poll bot. Here’s how to use either method.
Creating a Poll Using Emojis
To initiate a poll on Discord, use Emoji reactions to gather responses on specific topics. Emoji counts represent the votes of server members. Here’s how:
Step 1: Open Discord on your device.
Step 2: On the left side of your Discord app, you’ll see a list of servers. Click on the server hosting the channel where you want to create the poll.
Step 3: Open the Discord server and navigate to the desired channel for the poll.
If you want a dedicated channel, add a new one by clicking on the + button next to Text Channels. Then, enter a channel name and click Create Channel.
Step 4: Locate the Gear icon next to the channel name.
Step 5: Access the Permissions by clicking on the icon.
Step 6: Go to the Role/Members section under Advanced permissions and select @everyone.
Step 7: Scroll down the channel permissions to Read Message History and click the green ‘√’ (checkmark).
Step 8: Scroll down and click the red ‘x’ next to the other options. Save the changes.
Step 9: Click Save Changes in the bottom-right corner.
Step 10: Close the settings window to return to the channel interface.
Step 11: Type the poll question in the channel’s text box and press Enter.
Step 12: Hover your mouse over the question and choose the emojis for your reactions. Each emoji represents an answer.
Step 13: Explain poll options in the channel. For example, click emoji 1 for Yes and emoji 2 for No.
Step 14: Invite members to react to the poll and monitor the emoji count.
Creating a Poll Using Bots
Polls can use bots as an alternative to emojis. However, there are many third-party bots that require users to grant permissions to access their account information. The initial step entails adding the bot to the server.
Here are the steps to add a poll bot to a server:
Step 1: Get the PollBot from the official site.
Step 2: Click on Invite this bot.
Sign in with your Discord account, if you haven’t already. Step 3: Select the server from the drop-down and then click Continue. This action adds the Poll Bot to the server.
To review the permissions, click on Authorize after reviewing them.
Step 5: Launch Discord and choose the server where you need to run the poll.
Step 6: Choose a channel from the Text Channels list.
Step 7: Type “pollhelp” in the message field. The bot will respond with instructions on creating different poll types like Normal, Fancy, and Numbered.
Different bots respond to various commands to activate the poll feature. To find the command for your chosen poll bot, visit the developer’s website.
Creating a Normal Poll Using PollBot
The Normal Poll is similar to the poll created with Discord emojis. A user asks a question and the rest of the server responds with emojis. Here’s how it works: Step 1 – Launch Discord and select the server for the poll.
Step 2: Go to the Text Channels list and choose a channel.
Step 3: Type the command “poll:” followed by your question in the message area. For example, “poll: Do you like Fortnite?”
Users can respond with emojis and their responses can be counted.
The Fancy Poll is different from the Normal Poll. A user types a question, and the PollBot flags it like a banner and asks server members to respond using reactions. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Launch Discord and select the server.
Step 2: Go to the Text Channels list and choose one of the channels.
Step 3: Type the command “poll::” followed by your question in the message area. For example, “poll:: Do you like Fortnite?”
Creating a Numbered Poll Using PollBot
To provide a range of responses for the numbered poll, follow these steps:
1. Launch Discord.
2. Select the server from the left column.
Step 2: Go to the Text Channels list and choose a channel.
Step 3: In the message area, type the number of options you want, poll: then follow with your question. An example is poll: How many colors of the rainbow are?
After users respond, you can count their reactions.
Creating Polls on iPhone and Android
If you need to create polls outside Discord, you can use dedicated apps for iPhones and Androids such as Opinion Up, SurveyMonkey, and Pollie.
