How Much Data Does Instagram Use and 4 Ways to Reduce It
If you mainly use cellular data and spend a lot of time on social media, Instagram will likely be at the top of your internet usage. With its endless supply of reels and memes, Instagram easily consumes your data. If this is a concern, let us show you how much data Instagram uses and a few ways to reduce it.
We conducted a real-world test to estimate mobile data usage by Instagram. This will help you get an idea of the data consumption. We’ll also show you four effective ways to reduce data usage on Instagram. These methods have been tried and tested over the years. Let’s begin.
How Much Data Does Instagram Use
Instagram uses a significant amount of internet due to the high activity on the platform. This is especially true with the rise of reels as the preferred content format, resulting in increased data consumption. To illustrate this, we conducted a test on our iPhone, clearing the data usage history and using Instagram on mobile data. Within five minutes, we observed the following data usage:
During our five-minute usage, we viewed several reels, posts, and stories. Overall, Instagram consumed approximately 32 MB of data. Extrapolating this, we can estimate around 64 MB for ten minutes and about 400 MB for an hour. However, these numbers may vary based on your usage. We recommend budgeting around 500 MB of mobile data for one hour on Instagram.
To help minimize data usage on Instagram, consider the following tips.
4 Easy Ways to Reduce Data Usage on Instagram
