Get Instagram Like Retro Photo Effects Online With InstantRetro
Image effects web apps existed before Instagram. Before applying funky effects and showing them off on social profiles became a trend, Photoshop filters were the go-to tools. However, Instagram gained popularity after the iPhone and android devices were introduced. Not everyone owns these devices, so we searched for a close alternative, which led us to Instant Retro.
Instant Retro is a simple image effects app that has one standout feature in common with Instagram – simplicity.
Cool Tip: If you want to edit your photos beyond applying predefined effects, try Photobucket, a decent online tool.
InstantRetro offers retro effects for your photos. Check out the public gallery of user-uploaded photos. The app is easy to use with no instructions to slow you down.
You don’t need to register or log in to use the image effects. Connect to social networks like Facebook, Google +, and Twitter to share your creations. Let’s explore the options and the process.
Here’s the image I’ll start with. Upload yours using the “Upload” button in the top left corner of the interface.
If working with a photo, adjust it before applying effects. Instant Retro’s image manipulation tools are on one page, towards the right side. Controls include Darken edges, Lighten center, Screen layer, and Desaturate. Simply toggle buttons or drag sliders. Here’s my photo after the adjustments.
Once done, apply any effects from the list in the panel below the image. You can only apply one at a time. I just gave it a touch of Glowing Sun, and the picture changed completely. Scroll up and check the original.
You can apply filters to refine your work. These are available as buttons on the right side, below the basic adjustment tools.
You can choose to keep the photos public or private by checking a box. Once you are satisfied, save the image by clicking the “Save image” button. If not, you can reset.
After saving the image, you will be guided to a new page where you can share it on social networks. There is also an option to share the URL. To save it to your desktop, right-click the image and select “Save as…”
Instant Retro offers a Chrome app and a Facebook app for you to try. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed. Experiment with different effects and share your experiences with us. Let us know your favorite set of effects.
