Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the default social networks for Millennials. You might use one more than the other or prefer a network for a specific form of media, but most of us wind up using three different apps for browsing these networks. If you’re looking to see how to run multiple Facebook accounts on one device, check out this post on how to do that for iPhone and Android. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get the best from this holy trinity of social media in one app? Now you can.

HashTack

Hashtack is a free iPhone app that lets you browse photos from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in one endless scroll. You can add your own stream by filtering posts with hashtags. This filters public posts from all three networks.

How To Get Started

First, sign up for an account with Hashtack using your email or by connecting with Facebook or Twitter. Once logged in, connect your social networks. If you used Facebook to log in, your account is already linked. Hashtack uses iOS 7’s integrated sharing accounts to link with Facebook and Twitter, so make sure your main social media profiles are linked there. Linking Instagram is simply a matter of granting Hashtack permission to access your account. Once set up, your feed will populate.

Consuming Content

When browsing photos, Hashtack offers a superior experience on Facebook and Twitter compared to stock apps. The Facebook app has too many ads and Twitter’s app isn’t customized for a photo feed.

Hashtack’s UI and interaction elements, including button placement, are inspired by Instagram. However, it offers useful features for everyday Instagram users. You can save a photo by tapping and holding, pinch to zoom for a detailed view, and use the retack button to share on any platform, including Instagram.

Hashtack is still young and doesn’t support detailed likes, comments, or leaving comments for Twitter and Instagram. However, you can do all of that for Facebook posts. Hopefully, this functionality will be added in the next update.

Sharing Content

The app has a “Retack” button, which is essentially a branded share button. You can share photos from any social network to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. Selecting any option will open the iOS 7’s sharing popup.

Creating Customized Hashtag Streams

Other than providing a consolidated feed of photos, Hashtack allows you to create a personal stream of public posts, sorted by hashtags. The hash in Hashtack represents this functionality.

To create your stream, simply open the sidebar from the left, select “Create stream,” enter the desired hashtag text (without the “#” symbol), save the stream, and you’re finished.

Your new stream will be accessible by swiping right from the Hashtack homescreen.
