Top 7 OnePlus Android 10 Features You Should Check Out
Few things are more exciting than new features and customization options for phones. OnePlus, a popular phone maker, has updated its custom Oxygen OS 10.0 skin with the Android 10 update.
If you have recently updated your OnePlus device to the new Android version, here are a few new features you should not miss.
Gestures have been a part of OnePlus phones for quite some time. Remember those M and O gestures? Well, we have come a long way since then. Now with Android 10, there’s a new set of navigation gestures.
You get to choose from three different modes to get around your device. There are the older on-screen navigation buttons with the traditional nav bar at the bottom. Then there are the new stock Android 10 gestures where you can swipe up from the bottom to go home or swipe inwards from either side to go back. Or, you can simply swipe up and hold to open the Android Overview menu.
To enable these options, go to Settings > Buttons & gestures > Navigation bar & gestures, and select one of the options.
Plus, it has a bottom bar to guide you. And it can also switch between your recently used apps. Nifty, right? Just touch it and swipe from left to right. You can revert the settings if you don’t like the bar’s appearance.
2. Tweak the Smart Display
I find the OnePlus phones’ Ambient Display very convenient, whether to check notifications or battery percentage. You can simply lift your phone or tap the screen.
The new Oxygen OS Android 10 update enhances your experience by providing easy access to relevant information. With a single tap, you can view details such as the music player, calendar events, and other contextual information. For example, if you’re listening to music, even with the screen turned off, tapping on it will display the name of the song and artist. To enable this feature, go to Settings > Display > Ambient display. Then, select Contextual info and choose your preferred options.
Similarly, upcoming events in your calendar will be displayed on the ambient display as well. Cool, right?
3. Game Using the All-new Game Space
OnePlus has removed its old Gaming mode from Utilities and created a standalone app called Game Space.
Now, all your games are in one place. You don’t have to search through your app drawer to find your favorite games. Plus, it also shows you how much time you’ve spent playing each game.
Of course, it includes options for optimizing graphics, an eSports-ready Fnatic mode, and settings to manage phone calls and incoming notifications.
4. Manage Notifications Better
Another new change is the option to manage the notification shade. You now have the choice to categorize notifications as Important or Other, which allows for better control of an app’s notification system.
Notifications marked Important will alert you with either a chime or a vibration, while the latter option won’t make any sound.
To enable this feature, simply tap and hold on any notification and select either Important or Other. If you prefer minimal distractions while working, the second option is the best choice.
Like in the past, you can now choose to disable notifications. However, there are additional options available. For example, you have the ability to selectively turn off direct message notifications on Instagram.
Tap the Turn off notifications button and find the control at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, go to the Notification section in the App Info.
5. Check the App Permissions
Apart from Notification, the Android 10 version of Oxygen OS has also overhauled App Permissions.
Whenever you install a new app, it asks for permissions. The installation interface will greet you with a simplified and informative permissions pop-up. For now, you get three options:
– Allow access all the time
– Allow it only while you’re using the app
– Deny
For example, if Facebook asks permission for Location, you’ll be able to choose when the app gets access to your device’s location.
6. Block Messages by Keywords
If you receive spam messages, the stock SMS app now has a Block by Keywords feature. It allows you to block incoming messages based on preset keywords.
To block messages with the words Offer or Discount, add these keywords to the block list. Open the SMS app and tap the three-dot menu at the top-right corner. Then, select Settings > Blocking Settings.
To make the content more concise and impactful, please eliminate redundant words or phrases in the provided text. In addition, simplify any phrasing without losing the original meaning to enhance clarity and readability.
Next time you receive a message with a blocked word, it will be automatically blocked on your phone without any chimes or vibrations.
7. Digital Wellbeing
You can access the Digital Wellbeing features on your OnePlus device by opening the Settings menu. It includes everything found on a Pixel device, such as a chart showing your daily usage and the option to limit screen time.
The Wind Down feature helps you get better sleep by managing notifications and setting up a Do Not Disturb schedule.
Bonus: For OnePlus 7 Pro Users
OnePlus 7 Pro users have a few clever additions. Firstly, you can now use all three lenses to capture videos, which was previously missing in OxygenOS versions. Additionally, you can utilize the Nightscape mode with the wide-angle lens. This means that whether you are capturing a well-lit monument or a beautifully lit cityscape, your phone will allow you to capture it in all its glory. Just make sure to use a high-quality tripod like the UBeesize Portable tripod to ensure a stable and blur-free shot.
Another new feature is the ability to customize the horizon notification lights on the curved edges of the phone. To do this, go to the Customization Settings and select the Horizon light option. From there, you can choose one of the four available colors.
Tap Preview to see how the lights will show up. Once done, tap the checkmark at the top-right corner, and that’s it.
