Top 7 Fixes for Spotify Not Showing Friend Activity
Streaming apps like Spotify have revolutionized music discovery and consumption. In addition to Spotify’s recommendation algorithm, you can follow your Facebook friends on Spotify to discover new songs. However, this feature may not be available if Spotify fails to show or update friend activity on your Windows or Mac device.
If you cannot view what songs your friends are listening to on Spotify, don’t fret. Here are a few troubleshooting tips to quickly load friend activity on Spotify.
1. Enable the Friend Activity Tab
To see the Friends Activity tab in the Spotify app, unhide it from the View menu. Just open the Spotify app and click the menu icon (three horizontal dots) in the top left corner. Then go to View and select Friend Activity.
After this, you should see the Friend Activity tab on your right.
2. Make Sure You Are Following Your Friend
This advice may seem obvious, but if you can’t see a specific friend’s activity, make sure you’re following them on Spotify. Here’s how to check:
1. Open the Spotify app and click on your profile picture in the top-right corner.
2. Select “Profile” from the menu that appears.
Step 2: Click on Following to view a list of people you follow.
Step 3: If your friend is not on this list, click the friend activity icon and then the add friends icon.
Step 4: Use the search box to find the friend you want to follow and click the add friend icon.
3. Your Friend May Have Disabled Listening Activity
Spotify lets you hide your listening activity, so your friends can’t see which songs you’ve been streaming. If your friend has turned off their listening activity, you won’t be able to see what they’ve been listening to. In this case, there is nothing wrong with the app. You can only view your friend’s activity if they turn their listening activity back on.
4. Close and Reopen the App
Sometimes, simple solutions are the most effective. Friend activity in Spotify may not work or update due to a minor app glitch. To resolve the issue, close and reopen the Spotify app.
On Windows, open the Task Manager by pressing Control + Shift + Esc. In the Processes tab, right-click on Spotify and choose End task.
To quit Spotify on Mac, press Command + Option + Escape. Select Spotify and click Force Quit.
Reopen Spotify app and check for friend activity.
5. Sign Out and Sign Back In
Sometimes, the Spotify app on your computer may fail to sync with the server due to authentication issues. This can cause friend activity in the Spotify app to stop updating. Signing out and signing back in is an effective way to resolve such issues.
Open the Spotify app, click the profile icon, and select Log Out. Then, sign back in and check if the issue still occurs.
6. Update the Spotify App
Spotify may not show friend activity if you have an outdated app version. To fix this, update the app to the latest version. Open Spotify, click the menu icon, go to Help, and select About Spotify. If an update is available, click ‘Click Here to Download’ to get the latest version.
7. Reinstall the Spotify App
If updating the Spotify app does not resolve the issue, try uninstalling and reinstalling it. This will remove any corrupted data associated with the app and restore the ability to see friend activity. On Windows, press the Windows + S keyboard shortcut to open the search menu. Type Spotify in the text box, right-click on the first result, and select Uninstall.
Mac users can delete the Spotify app by opening the Finder app, selecting Applications, right-clicking on Spotify, and choosing Move to Trash.
Once removed, download and install the Spotify app and check if the issue remains.
