Sony PSP, the portable gaming console, supports themes to suit every taste. To apply an official theme, simply copy it to your PSP’s “Theme” folder and apply it through “PSP Theme Settings”. However, most official themes are plain and unimpressive. Custom CXMB (Custom XrossMediaBar) themes, on the other hand, are cool and visually appealing, although they cannot be used directly.

To use the CXMB theme, your PSP needs to run custom firmware with the CXMB plugin installed. We have already covered the installation of custom firmware on PSP, so now let’s look at how to install the CXMB plugin for custom themes.

Note: I have tested this process on my PSP E-1004 Street running on Pro B9 LCFW. However, I am confident that this process will work on most PSPs that support memory sticks and use custom firmware.

With that in mind, let’s explore how you can use custom themes on your PSP.

Using Custom Themes on PSP

Step 1: Download the CXMB plugin for your PSP and extract the files to a folder on your computer. You will receive a CXMB folder and a text file. Keep them in their current state for now. Step 2: Ensure that your PSP is using custom firmware and connect your PSP Memory Stick to your computer. Transfer the CXMB to the root folder of your Memory Stick.

Step 3: Navigate to the “seplugin” folder on your Memory Stick and open the “vsh.txt” file. If you don’t already have this file and folder on your PSP Memory Stick, you will need to create them. The “seplugin” folder should be created in the Memory Stick root, and the “vsh.txt” file should be created inside the “seplugin” folder.

Step 4: In the “vsh.txt” file, go to a new line and paste the text “ms0:/cxmb/cxmb.prx 1”. Save the file. Now, copy all the theme files to the X:/PSP/THEME folder.
