How to Disable and Remove Truecaller Messaging Service (and Cool Tricks)
When it comes to identifying unknown numbers or discovering new contacts, Truecaller is unbeatable. This Yellow Pages for mobile phones helps identify callers and spammers. However, Truecaller also includes controversial features like Last Seen, Call Recording, and its SMS service.
Many people appreciate the features, but I find the SMS service bothersome. While it blocks spam messages, I prefer using my favorite SMS app for that. Truecaller’s service has multiple confirmation pop-ups and becomes the default messaging service. Additionally, it floods your inbox with duplicate messages when you receive a new message or OTP. Is it helpful? Not really.
Okay, I may have exaggerated a bit, but you understand what I mean. In this post, we will explain how to remove Truecaller’s messaging service. Keep reading until the end for some great tricks.
How to Remove Truecaller Messaging Service
Step 1: Go to Settings > App Manager > Default apps and tap on the SMS app.
Step 2: Choose your old SMS app from the list as your default messaging service.
To stop Truecaller from being your default SMS service, you may still receive duplicate messages. Truecaller says it doesn’t store your messages on servers. So why risk it?
To disable it, open App Settings, search for Truecaller, tap Permissions, and toggle the SMS switch. It’s simple.
If you are on the permissions page, disable the Microphone permission if you don’t use voice search. Similarly, if you don’t use the recording feature, you can also disable the Storage permission.
Bonus Tips and Tricks
Truecaller has evolved beyond being a number identifying service. It now offers various useful features, including an OCR feature that recognizes phone numbers.
Using it, you can scan for a number and search it on the Truecaller database. This trick will save you from the hassle of keeping notes or hoarding old business cards. Just tap the Search bar, press the camera icon, and point your camera at the card or signboard. The Truecaller app will recognize it quickly.
By tapping the number on your screen, you can see the contact name in their database. Open the contact, tap the three-dot menu, and save it. This saves time and paper. To close the camera, tap the small cross icon at the top.
2. Enable Speed Dial
Another hidden feature of Truecaller is Speed Dial. By assigning contacts to different numbers, you can quickly place a call without any delay.
To set speed dial numbers, go to Settings > General and scroll down to Speed Dial. Enter the numbers based on priority.
3. Pin Contacts to the Most-Called Banner
Since the Most-Called banner size has increased, you can pin your favorite callers to it. Just long-tap a contact and select Pin. Simple.
This list doesn’t follow any particular order, and the contact you pinned first will appear first.
4. Manage Spam List
The Truecaller Block extends beyond individual numbers. You can block a specific group of numbers by banning a series of numbers or an entire country code.
These settings are located in Block Settings > My Block list. Simply tap the Plus icon at the bottom-right corner and choose the appropriate option.
Get Your Inbox Back!
Undoubtedly, Truecaller is a must-have app for smartphone users as it removes the mystery from unknown callers. Its one-tap feature to block spammers won me over. However, it has flaws, and you can adjust the settings to your liking.
Do you use Truecaller as your default dialer app, or are you happy with the stock dialer?
