How To De-clutter and Organize Your Desktop With Fences
A few days ago we highlighted how FSL Launcher simplifies your desktop. While it is a useful tool, there is a minor inconvenience. With FSL Launcher, you need to move desktop icons into the tool and launch it every time you want to click on a desktop icon. This tool has its own interface instead of directly managing desktop clutter.
Today, we will discuss a more advanced tool called Fences. Fences creates a container for desktop icons and organizes them into groups.
After installation, you can choose any of the inbuilt layouts. It automatically creates and organizes icons in new fences. You can delete or rename these fences, or create your own. To create a fence, use the right mouse button to draw a square or rectangle on your desktop.
When you release the right mouse button, a link will appear saying “create new fence here.” Click on it and give a name to that fence. Now drag your icons inside. Create as many as you want and group them (as shown above). You can also choose a layout by visiting Configure Fences -> Fences -> layout.
Renaming can be done by right-clicking. “Configure Fences” is found in the context menu. There are other options available. You can customize the fence’s background color according to transparency, brightness, hue, and saturation.
You can also choose the labeling of fences. There are three options: never show, on mouse over, and always (I selected the second option for better organization of icons).
The magical part of this tool is the double click feature. Double click on the desktop to hide or show all the icons. No need to use “Show desktop icons” in the right-click menu.
There is also a “Snapshots or backups” feature to backup the fences you’ve created. Two pre-available snapshots are included: pre-installed snapshot and first-use snapshot.
It can backup your current desktop and save it for future use. If your settings aren’t right, you can switch back to the previous setting by clicking on the snapshot. Before switching, it prompts you to save your current setting.
This tool is a must-have for organizing a messy desktop. It not only declutters but also enhances its appearance. If you like this tool, please share your experience in the comments.
