How to Convert JPG to PNG in Paint 3D on Windows PC
Paint 3D is an upgraded version of Microsoft Paint. This image editor supports 2D and 3D images as well as PNG files. You can edit JPG or PNG pictures and save them as PNG images with or without a background. To learn how to convert JPG to PNG in Paint 3D on a Windows PC, read this post.
There are different image formats like JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, etc. PNG is the successor to JPG and supports transparent backgrounds. To create a logo or image with no background, save it in PNG format instead of JPG. To convert JPG to PNG in Windows 10, use Paint 3D.
Method 1: How to Save PNGs With Background in Paint 3D
To convert your JPG image to PNG in Paint 3D without removing the background, follow these steps:
1. Launch the Microsoft Paint 3D app.
2. Open the JPG or any other image file you want to save as PNG.
3. Go to Menu > Open > Browse files to select the image.
4. Save the picture as a PNG file.
The image extension is found in the top-left corner of Paint 3D.
Step 2: Once the JPG image opens in Paint 3D, click Menu, then Save. Select Image format.
Step 3: The Save as dialog box opens. Click the drop-down box next to Save as type and choose 2D-PNG from the list. Click Save. You have now converted JPG to PNG in Paint 3D on your Windows computer without using any third-party apps.
Method 2: How to Save Transparent PNG Images Without Background in Paint 3D
Now, let’s address the main query that most users have – how to save transparent PNGs in Paint 3D. There are two scenarios to consider. First, if you have created an image in Paint 3D and want to save it as a transparent PNG file. Second, if you have a JPG image that you want to convert to PNG without its background. Users often want to save such files when working with logos.
Create an image in Paint 3D. Adjust its size using the available borders. Click on the Canvas tab at the top when you have completed your design. You can also do it at the beginning. Enable the toggle for Transparent canvas under the Canvas tab.
Removing the white background from your picture can be done by following these steps.
Now go to Menu > Save > Image as we did before.
Be careful with the two steps mentioned. First, ensure PNG is selected for Save as type. Also, make sure the box next to Transparency is checked. Double-check both. If either is wrong, your final image won’t be transparent. Finally, click Save to save your PNG file.

Case 2: Convert JPG to Transparent PNG Without Background in Paint 3D
JPG files do not support background transparency. To remove or retain transparency, convert the file to PNG. The steps for removing the background in Paint 3D are covered in detail in another post. You can also use the Magic Select tool for this purpose. For example, here is the image.
I extracted the flower and removed the background using the Magic Select tool. Now, you have a JPG file with a transparent background in Paint 3D, click on Menu and go to Save as > Image.
Choose PNG under Save as type and check the box next to Transparency. This step is crucial to saving transparent PNG files. If the Paint dialog box opens, verify PNG is selected under Save as type.
