How to Control Xiaomi Air Purifier with Google Home and Google Assistant
The Google Home is more than a device for reminders and streaming songs. It has significant features that elevate the smart home experience. One impressive method is connecting it to your Xiaomi Air Purifier, allowing you to control the device with your voice.
Thankfully, connecting your Google Home to Xiaomi smart devices isn’t as complex as connecting to Amazon Alexa. It only takes a few taps to set up your integrated smart home quickly.
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Go to the Mi Home Services page for Google Assistant on your Android device and tap Setup.
This will take you to the Google Home Control settings page. Then tap the Plus icon at the bottom-right.
To link your Mi account and Google account, enter your Mi credentials on the Mi login page.
Please note that signing in with the same credentials used for the Mi Home app is required. Alternatively, open the Google Home app and go to Add > Set up device > Works with Google, then select Mi Home from the drop-down list.
After signing in, the Home Control app will display your connected devices on the Assign rooms page. To assign rooms to these devices, tap on the products and select the desired rooms. Options include Bedroom, Office, and Dining Room.
Step 3: Hit Done to save the settings. To test your newly configured Google Assistant or Google Home, say, “Turn on air purifier in the bedroom.”
The Google Home integration allows you to easily voice commands through your phone, eliminating the need to launch the Google Home app separately. This feature is smart and convenient, as it works seamlessly on both generations of the Mi Air Purifier.
How to Edit Device Name
The Google Home app takes the official device name as the calling name, making it confusing to shape a whole sentence as a command. For example, if the device name is Mi Air Purifier 2S, you’d have to say, “Hey Google, turn off Mi Air Purifier 2S.” It’s quite a tongue twister, right?
Fortunately, you can easily change the name. Simply open the Google Home app on your Android device. You’ll find all the smart home devices neatly lined up.
Click the name you want to change, then tap on it. Enter the new name and save. Repeat for all other smart home devices. I saved you from crazy tongue twisters!
How to Unlink Xiaomi Air Purifier from Google Home
To unlink a Xiaomi smart device, tap on a device name and select Unlink Mi Home. This action will remove all devices from Mi Home, not just one.
Bonus Point: Enable Routines on Your Assistant
Google Assistant’s Routines are the most overlooked feature of the Google Assistant. Using them, you can string actions into a single command. For instance, you can switch your phone to normal mode and get the day’s forecast when your morning alarm goes off with Routines.
To enable Routines, go to Profile > Settings and tap the Assistant tab on the Google Home app. Scroll down until you see Routines.
Tap the first routine and add your trigger word. Then, start adding actions. You can ask the Assistant to play songs on Play Music or read your unread messages.
To review the provided text and make it more concise and impactful, the following edits can be made:
“Hit the Add action option to add an action. To choose from presets, tap on Choose popular actions. Check the boxes for the actions you want to add and tap Add at the upper-right corner.”
To wake up Google Assistant, simply voice your command and watch the magic unfold. Thank me later.
Welcome to the Smart World
With affordable smart assistants and home devices, a fully functional smart home is now a reality. Smart bulbs, security cameras, and plugs all have a touch of luxury that is hard to give up. Until then, just say, “Hey Google, turn off the lights.”
