How to Change Reminder Tone in Google Keep (And Other Tips)

Even though Google launched a dedicated tasks app a few months ago, many people still use Google Keep for tasks and reminders. However, Google uses the same notification tone for everything, so changing the tone for reminders can help distinguish them among other notifications.

For some users, this would save them from the hassle of setting up a different tone for every app. Others, like me, want a different tone for reminders. This is because the default tone is usually mild, and we often ignore it, mistaking it for a random notification.

Because of this, I prefer an emphatic tone for important things. If you also want to change the default notification sound of reminders in Google Keep Notes, you’re in the right place.

Let’s figure out how to change the reminder tone in Keep. You will also get to know tips for Keep reminders.

Google Keep Notes doesn’t have a native setting to change the reminder sound in the app like WhatsApp. However, you can change it from your phone settings. Follow these steps:

1. Open Settings on your phone and go to Apps & notifications or Apps.

2. Under All apps, tap on Keep Notes.

Step 3: Go to Notifications. Various notification categories can be found here, including Reminders, Shared notes, and more. These categories can be customized with options like sound, vibration, and notification dots.

Step 4: Open Reminders and tap on Sound. On some devices, this option can be found under Advanced. The default tone will be displayed.

Step 5: Choose a tone from the available options or set a custom tone. Other reminder settings, such as lock screen content, blink light, and do not disturb override, can also be customized here.

On Android 7.1 Nougat and later, you can hold the app icon on the home screen or app drawer to reveal app shortcuts. One of them is the app info icon (i), which takes you directly to step 3.

Note:

Here are some bonus tips for you.

Tip 1: View Upcoming Reminders

While Keep is primarily a notes app, it also includes a dedicated section for upcoming reminders. This makes it a convenient choice for people looking for a reminder app alternative. To view your upcoming reminders on Keep Notes, follow these steps:

1. Open the Keep Notes app on your Android or iOS device.

2. Tap the three-bar icon located at the top-left corner of the screen, then select Reminders.

3. You will see a list of notes that have upcoming reminders.

Tip 2: Create Recurring Reminders

We often create reminders for tasks like buying groceries, making phone calls, and paying bills. But there are also tasks that need to be done on a regular basis, like daily or monthly tasks. These are called recurring reminders. You can use recurring reminders in Keep for things like birthdays too.

To create a recurring reminder in Keep, follow these steps:

1. Open the Keep app and create a new note or open an existing one.

2. Tap on the reminder icon at the top.

3. In the pop-up box, choose a recurring time from the available options or set a custom duration by selecting “Custom.”

Tip 3: Change Reminder Default Time

While creating reminders in Keep, you may have noticed that it offers predefined times for morning, afternoon, evening, and night. You don’t need to set up the time if you want to be reminded at those specific times only.

For some people, the given time intervals may match their preferred times, but if your Android device has multiple users, others may not be comfortable with it. However, Keep provides a native setting to change the timings for these intervals. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open the Keep app and tap the three-bar icon, then select Settings.
