How to Beat Super Mario Run and Fully Expand Your Kingdom
If you’ve played Super Mario Run for a while, you may have discovered this secret: It’s easy to complete the tour and defeat Bowser. I finished in about an hour. Initially, I thought, “I paid ten dollars for this?” However, upon further exploration, I realized the tour is a small part of what Super Mario Run offers.
Most of my gameplay these days comes from three major components of Super Mario Run: the rally, the kingdom, and the specialty coins. All three are necessary to fully “beat” the game, reaching the highest level and growing your kingdom to maximum capacity. Here’s how.
Play the Rally… A Lot
The more stunts you pull in a rally, the more toads will cheer you on. To level up quickly in Super Mario Run, focus on rally mode instead of tour mode. Rally mode allows you to compete against other players’ ghosts in different worlds. Each world in rally mode has its own set of toads, including red, blue, purple, green, and yellow. Collecting a good amount of each color is important for later stages, so make sure to explore all the worlds.
You level up in Super Mario Run by increasing the number of toads in your kingdom. The more stunts you perform in a rally, the more toads will cheer you on. You can collect up to 60 toads per game. To gather more toads, try doing flutter jumps, pouncing on enemies, and collecting enough coins to enter star mode. Additionally, collecting coins is important because losing to your opponent will result in losing toads from your kingdom.
To play in the rally, you need rally tickets. The easiest ways to earn them are by collecting pink, purple, and black coins in tour mode, placing ? blocks in your kingdom and tapping them daily, and placing specialty game houses in your kingdom and playing them daily. Collecting the coins in tour mode gives you two tickets, while tapping a ? block can give you up to 50 tickets as a random reward. Game houses also yield a few tickets per day.
Get to Level 20
Super Mario Run levels up every 200 new toads you bring in.
Level 20 is when Nintendo decided “Yep, this is probably high enough.” You reach level 20 when your kingdom has 4,000 toads. You can grow your kingdom up to 9,999, but you stay at level 20 thereafter. At level 20, your castle expands to its largest size and build mode unlocks goodies for your kingdom.
Super Mario Run levels up for every 200 new toads you bring in. The castle expands every five levels or one thousand toads. The only exception is the final transition from level 19 to 20 — it takes 1,000 new toads to reach the last level. Get ready, get set, and rally through the night to power through the big leap.
Getting to level 20 means you finished everything Nintendo wants, but you can still progress further from here.
Deck Out Your Kingdom
Unlocking all the characters, expensive statues, and rainbow bridges is facilitated by higher amounts of toads. The ultimate objective is to unlock every object in build mode, particularly the five rainbow bridges. These bridges expand the size of your kingdom, providing additional space for buildings, specialty buildings, and decorations.
Just about everything in build mode is available once you get enough toads and coins. That’s why playing rally mode and bringing toads into your kingdom is crucial. Higher amounts allow you to unlock characters, statues, and rainbow bridges. You can place bigger and better homes for your toads, monuments, and more.
The exceptions are the specialty buildings. The pink, purple, and black pipes are available only after you collect all the respective coins in tour mode.
Gameplay continues as long as you want it to. I’m still not at 9,999 toads or have I collected all the specialty coins, so there is plenty for me to do past level 20. The value in your $10 spent for Super Mario Run is superb, so get into rally mode and keep growing your kingdom. Good luck.
