If you’ve ever struggled to fix a misbehaving app over the phone, especially with new and complicated ones, know that you’re not alone. The problem often arises when the phone with the issue is out of sight.

Despite most phones supporting video calling, it isn’t the first choice for assistance. Instead, there should be an app that offers more than a typical call without resorting to Skype.

Recently, I discovered Inkwire Screen Share + Assist on the Play Store. This app provides remote access to Android phones and includes a voice chat feature.

Inkwire: A Trouble Shared is a Trouble Halved.

Inkwire is the perfect combination — It has screen sharing and a voice call feature. It helps you get named as the resident geek and share your screen with your buddies directly.

Inkwire requires both users to have the app installed and works over a cellular network or Wi-Fi. The call quality depends on the network both parties are connected to.

The benefit is that it doesn’t give the other party control over the device, so you don’t have to worry about them accessing other apps. They will only see what you want them to see while troubleshooting.

Setup Process: Share this Android

The setup process for screen sharing is straightforward. The user is presented with two choices: “Share this Android” or “See a shared Android.”

Tapping the “Share this Android” button generates a unique access code, which needs to be shared with the receiver. The access code can be shared via email or message, or the link can be sent directly.

If the receiver doesn’t have the app installed, the link will open the Inkwire page in the Play Store.

If screen sharing doesn’t solve your issue, you can use voice chat as well. Depending on your needs, you can turn it on or off. You will also see a notification for Inkwire in the notification drawer.

See a shared Android

Seeing a shared screen is as simple as sharing one. If you are receiving the screen share, all you need to do is tap on the button and type in the access code. Voila, you are all set to go.

The app interface is easy to handle. Once the business is completed, a tap on the notification drawer stops the share.

The app performed well in tests. However, in some Xiaomi phones, the app didn’t stop when needed, so the ultimate savior was the Force Stop button (in app settings).

For a seamless call, a good internet connection is necessary. If you have a spotty connection, you can skip Inkwire.

The app excels at fine-tuning problematic apps. With strong internet, it saves you from lengthy phone conversations. It offers a balance between voice calls and video calls. A win-win, indeed.
