Customize Windows Taskbar Thumbnails in All Possible Ways
While the basic tricks are in place, we’ll discuss a Windows tool today that helps you perform all those actions from one interface. The tool is a product of Winaero and is named Taskbar Thumbnails Tuner. It enables you to customize the taskbar thumbnails in all ways. Let’s take a deeper look.
First, download and extract the application from the zipped file. Since the app is portable, it doesn’t need to be installed. Simply double click the file to use it.
The first set of actions shown in the image above is categorized as “General.” Here’s what each one means.
By default, taskbar thumbnails provide a decent size preview of their contents. However, if you prefer, you can make them larger and more prominent.
Number of Thumbnails in Group
When multiple windows of the same program are open, the taskbar displays multiple thumbnails when hovered over. You can limit the number of thumbnails shown, and once the number of open instances exceeds this limit, the preview will change.
Spacing Between Thumbnails
The layout of thumbnails can appear cluttered, so the spacing between them can be increased to create more visual clarity.
Thumbnail Show Delay
When hovering on a taskbar icon, the thumbnail takes time to show. This delay can be easily adjusted for faster or slower response time.
The window title appears when you hover over a thumbnail. You can also change its position. Try it to understand its function.
Margins
This feature is located on another tab. It allows you to adjust the margins of thumbnails in all directions – left, right, top, and bottom.
Each thumbnail is within margins. You can increase the container size. The screenshot shows one with maximum values.
Note: When you have decided the values by moving the sliders against each setting, click on Apply to make it effective. At any time, you can hit Defaults to revert to originals.
