Create You Own Stock Watcher Widget (& Make it Stay on Top)

If you’re a stock market player, you must be familiar with various websites and tools that help you monitor stock prices. But have you ever thought about making your own customized stock watcher? This article will show you how to do that.

Steps to Create a Stock Watcher

To reach our objective, we will use a tool called “On Top Replica” to clone any window and keep it on top. We will only use some basic features of the tool to create the widget.

We will fetch our data using Google’s Search bar, which provides results for stock symbols. You can choose any source for your data.

Note: This is not a guide on how to use On Top Replica. For more details, please read this article.

Step 1: Open Google in a browser and type the stock ticker symbol you want to monitor. Keep the tab highlighted and do not minimize the browser.

Step 2: Install On Top Replica and launch the application. A gray empty dialog box will appear.

Step 3: Right-click on this interface, go to Select Window and choose the application/browser where you have opened your stock information. In my case, it is Google on Firefox (as shown in the image).

The browser tab/window is cloned onto On Top Replica’s interface, allowing for innovation with the tool.

Step 4: Right-click on the cloned window and choose “Select Region”. I am sure you would not be interested in the entire window. In our example, I need the area from Google search that shows the stock result.

Step 5: Drag the cross lines over the area you want to cut out and hit Done on the helper dialog that appears.

Step 6: Your widget is ready and will always stay on top. You may resize the window by dragging the edges and place it by your convenience.

Quick Tip: If the source you select has static results and you need to refresh the page to update results, you may configure auto refreshes on that tab. That’ll make the widget dynamic, providing the most current information.

Conclusion

Got Facebook stock? Keep an eye on it for a few days. The price may surge, and you could sell it for a quick fortune.
