When people know you as a tech blog writer, they tend to remember you as the go-to tech guy when they can’t figure out their computer and gadget issues. I have no problems helping friends and family with their tech problems, but it can get irritating at times.

Some people can wait until I am in front of my computer to help them using a remote connection. However, a few of them act as if it’s the end of the world and that their computer will be taken over by aliens if it’s not fixed immediately. For these vexing souls, I installed the TeamViewer Remote Control app on my Android.

Please note that in early June 2016, TeamViewer was hacked. Their team did respond with an official statement.

TeamViewer Remote Control enables remote control of any internet-connected computer from your desktop. Simply install the TeamViewer desktop application on the computer to use this feature. Now, let’s take a closer look at how the app functions.

Establishing the Connection

Step 1: Download and install TeamViewer on your Android and PC.

Step 2: Launch the application on both devices. The PC app will provide an ID and password. Enter the ID and password on the Android app to connect.

Step 3: If both the computer and Android are connected to the internet, the connection will be established and you will be notified on the desktop. You can now remotely control the computer from your Android and take care of things wherever you are.

If you need to input text or perform a right-click, you can use the buttons at the bottom of the app screen. The app supports pinch to zoom and two-finger scrolling if your device has multi-touch.

To optimize the remote connection quality, adjust the app settings, disable wallpaper, and enable UDP for faster Android-to-computer connection speed. The same settings can also be adjusted on the desktop application.

My Verdict

The app impressed me. I never thought I could remotely control a computer using an Android so easily and effectively, but TeamViewer proved me wrong. Try out the app today and share your experience. You might also want to see how to remote control uTorrent on desktop using your Android phone.
