13 Best Samsung Call Settings Tips and Tricks
Some people still use their smartphones to make calls. We all do. One of the basic and important features of any smartphone is making and receiving calls. And some phone makers enhance it with extra components. If you own a Samsung smartphone, we can help you improve your calling experience. Here are 13 hidden call settings, features, and tips to change the way you make and receive calls.
1. Gestures
Who doesn’t like gestures? Android has hidden gestures, including making calls or sending messages. In a Samsung Phone or Contacts app, swipe left on any number to message or swipe right to call.
The feature is enabled by default on Samsung phones. However, if it’s not working, go to Settings. Then tap on Advanced features and enable Swipe to call or send messages. And if you don’t like this feature, you can disable it in the same setting.
2. Add to Favorite
Adding regularly contacted people to your Favourites list in Contacts is a convenient way to ensure easy accessibility.
To add a number to Favourites, open the Phone or Contact app. Tap the contact name you want to favorite. From the options at the bottom, select Details. On the contact info screen, tap the Star icon to favorite it.
3. Add to Speed Dial
You can add contacts to Speed Dial for quick access by assigning them to keypad numbers. Holding a number on the keypad will dial the corresponding contact’s number. To do this, open the Phone app and tap the keypad icon in the bottom-right corner. Then, hold any number and select “Assign” in the pop-up menu. Choose a contact from your Contacts list and repeat these steps for other numbers.
To view and manage Speed Dial numbers, open the keypad and tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. From the menu, select Speed dial number, then add or remove numbers.
4. Change Open Mode of Phone App
When you launch the Samsung phone app, it will show the recent calls list by default. To open the keypad, tap on the keypad icon. You can change this behavior and set the app to launch the keypad directly.
To do so, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Samsung Phone app and tap the keypad icon at the bottom-right corner.
Step 2: Tap on the three-dot icon at the top-right corner. Select Open to keypad from the menu.
5. Direct Call
Imagine there’s a number on the screen and if you take your phone towards your ear, it dials that number automatically. This is possible in Samsung’s three apps — Messages, Phone, and Contacts.
Yup, not kidding. The feature is called Direct Call which dials the number on the screen when you bring the phone close to your ear.
Enabled by default, you can disable it in the settings. To do so, go to device Settings > Advanced Features and turn off Direct Call.
Pro Tip:
6. Flash Notification
I have seen many people who have this feature enabled, not sure if it’s by mistake or they actually like it. But if you also want the camera flash to light up when you get a call, you can do it easily.
To enable this feature, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open device Settings and go to Accessibility. Then tap on Hearing.
Step 2: Tap on Flash notification. Here you will get two options: Camera light and screen. Enable Camera light.
7. Single Tap Answer
Normally, to answer or reject a call, you have to use the swipe gesture, which is hit-or-miss. Thankfully, Samsung lets you respond to calls and other alerts with just a single tap. To enable this mode, go to device Settings > Accessibility and enable Single tap mode.
8. Use Buttons to Answer or Reject Calls
Even though you don’t have physical buttons to respond to calls, you can use other buttons. When enabled, you can answer and reject phone calls using the Volume up and Power key.
To enable this feature, go to device Settings > Accessibility > Answering and ending calls. Here you will find options for answering and rejecting calls. Enable the buttons that you prefer.
9. Hide Messages and Filter Call Log
You may have noticed that in the Phone app, in addition to call history, message history is also displayed. This can be annoying. Luckily, it is possible to hide it if you prefer.
To hide messages from the call log, open the Phone app and tap the three-dot icon at the top-right corner. Select Hide messages.
The Phone app by default shows all calls in the call log. However, if you only want to see missed or rejected calls, you can filter the call log. To do this, tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of the Phone app and select Calls to show. From the pop-up menu, choose the appropriate filter.
10. Clear Call Log
To clear the entire call log, use the Delete option found inside the three-dot icon at the top-right corner of the Phone app.
Once you press Delete, you will see an All icon at the top-left corner. Select it and hit the Delete button at the top-right corner. To find the icon, refer to the images below.
11. Show Caller Information
When making or receiving calls, you’ll see details about the caller’s recent social network activity (if your contacts are synced with your social networks). You’ll also see the communication history with them.
To enable this feature, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Phone app and tap the three-dot icon at the top-right corner. Then select Settings.
Step 2: Enable Show caller information.
12. Show Calls in Pop-Up
While using other apps, you can show ongoing calls in a pop-up instead of letting them occupy the entire screen. This feature is handy in many ways. To activate it, go to the Phone app Settings and enable “Show calls in pop-up.”
13. Vibrate When Answered
When making calls, we usually need either to hold the phone close to our ear or check the screen to see if the call has been answered. Alternatively, you can activate the feature that causes your phone to vibrate when the call is answered.
To activate this feature, go to the Phone app’s Settings and tap on Call alerts. Then enable Vibrate when answered.

A Phone app from a phone maker usually lacks many configurations. Gestures for rejecting or answering calls have become basic. Samsung offers a variety of settings that make the calling experience more personalized. You may not be aware of all these settings on your Samsung phone. Take the time to explore and enjoy them.
