10 Best YouTube Shorts Tips and Tricks
Google is challenging TikTok with YouTube Shorts. After TikTok’s success with short-form videos, YouTube wants to try it too. If you have access to YouTube Shorts, here are some tips and tricks.
Like TikTok, there are various editing options available for you to enhance your video including music, text, and speed timer. You can also use adult filters and adjust permissions based on the content of your Shorts. Let’s begin.
Where Is YouTube Shorts
YouTube has placed the Story option in the + menu at the bottom of the home screen. To access it, open YouTube, tap the + icon at the bottom, and select YouTube Shorts.
1. Add Music to YouTube Shorts
YouTube Shorts lacks background music. When making Shorts, you can select a default tune by tapping on the Add Music button. However, you cannot import or upload music from your device’s storage. Therefore, you must use YouTube’s default collection.
If you like a music tune and want to use it in the future, use the Favorite button beside it for easy access.
2. Adjust Speed
Shorts offer users the ability to manipulate recording speed. On the recording screen, tap the Speed button to slow down the video by 0.3x or speed it up by 3x.
3. Add a Countdown Timer
This tool is useful for creating Shorts videos with friends. Often, we miss the perfect moment because of wrong timings. In Shorts, you can adjust the countdown timer and recording time from 1s to 15s.
4. Add Text to Video
Want to enhance your Shorts video with different text styles and colors? From the Next screen, you can add various text styles and customize them with different colors, alignments, sizes, and more. Unfortunately, YouTube currently does not support stickers.
You can add emoji from the default keyboard menu.
5. Set Permission
We appreciate YouTube’s different Permissions for Shorts sharing. You can select Public, Unlisted, or Private before publishing the video. While most choose Public, Unlisted and Private can also be beneficial in specific situations.
6. Schedule YouTube Shorts
YouTube lets you schedule Shorts by selecting a time for them to go live. In the Permission menu, select “Scheduled” and use the date and time picker to set the live time for your Shorts.
7. Select Adult Filter
YouTube is a responsible platform used by millions of kids. To ensure their safety, you can add an adult filter to the Shorts. In the add details menu, select audience and restrict your video to an adult audience. You can also choose if the Short is meant for kids.
8. Check Shorts Views
You can check the current Shorts video views anytime. Open the YouTube app and go to Library > Your Videos. Here, you’ll find all your uploaded Shorts videos and their current views.
9. Edit Shorts Permission
Even after uploading the Shorts video, you can change the title, description, and edit permission for the video. Go to YouTube > Library > Your Video and tap on the three-dot menu beside the video and select Edit.
You will find the familiar edit menu. Use the relevant options and make changes.
10. Delete YouTube Shorts
To remove a YouTube Shorts video, open the YouTube app and go to Library > Your Videos. Tap the three-dot menu next to the video and select Delete from the menu.
Early YouTube Shorts Impressions
YouTube has done a good job with YouTube Shorts. However, it’s missing fun elements like party filters, stickers, the ability to set cover photos, and more. The permission options are spot on, and YouTube’s advanced algorithms can make Shorts the crowd favorite.
