10 Best Xiaomi Redmi Devices Call Settings Tips & Tricks
Smartphones have replaced many gadgets. We do almost everything on our phones, including listening to music, reading books, and watching movies.
In rare moments, when we use our phones for their intended purpose – making calls – we want to quickly return to our previous activity. Although Android phones offer various features and gestures, the significance of their call features is often overlooked.
In this post, we will focus on Redmi devices and explore helpful tips and tricks for call settings. Before we dive into that, let’s first learn how to access the call settings.
How to Access Call Settings on Redmi Devices
There are two ways to access call settings on Redmi devices, as shown in the image.
Method 1: Using the Phone App
Open the Phone app and tap the three-bar menu at the bottom-left corner. Choose Settings from the pop-up. You will be taken to the Call settings.
Method 2: From Settings
Open Settings and tap System apps. Under Call settings.
Tips and Tricks
Now that you know how to access call settings on your Redmi device with MIUI, here are some related tips and tricks.
1. Enable Automatic Call Recording
Xiaomi provides two options for call recording: manual recording and automatic recording. For manual recording, simply tap the record button in the Dialer app after dialing the number.
To enable automatic call recording, open Call settings and go to the Call recording option. Enable the Record calls automatically option.
You have several customization options for recording calls. You can record calls from all numbers or select specific numbers.
To record calls from specific numbers, simply choose the Selected numbers option and customize it as needed. Now, let’s discuss two methods for recording WhatsApp and Facebook video calls on Android.
2. Flip to Silence
The common method to silence an incoming call is by pressing the volume buttons. However, Redmi devices have a Flip to silence feature that allows you to mute the call by flipping your phone horizontally. Once you do this, the phone will stop ringing.
To activate this feature, go to Call settings and enable the Flip to silence ringer option.
3. Flash Notification Light for Incoming Calls
This feature is typically found in Accessibility settings. However, in Redmi devices, it is located within the Call settings. When activated, the flashlight will automatically turn on when your phone rings. To enable it, navigate to Call settings > Incoming call settings > Enable the Flash when ringing option.
4. Enable Automatic Redial
Once in our life, we have experienced situations where our call is met with a busy line. If this is a common occurrence for you, Redmi offers a convenient feature to simplify the process. To utilize this feature, all you need to do is enable the Automatic Redial option. With this option enabled, your device will automatically attempt to call the person again if the line is busy. There is no need for any additional action on your part. To enable Automatic Redial, open Call Settings and navigate to Advanced settings. From there, simply enable the Redial automatically option.
5. Change Dial Pad Touch Tones
We use smartphones primarily to make calls. When dialing a number, you can enable or disable the touch tone on the dial pad. Xiaomi allows you to go a step further by changing the dial pad tone. It offers two options – Default and Piano. The Piano variant is unique and interesting. To change the dial pad touch tone, access Call Settings > Advanced settings > Dial pad touch tones > Piano keys.
6. Change Incoming Call Background
If you don’t like the default incoming call background, you can change it on Redmi devices. However, the options are limited to Default and Lock screen wallpaper. Whatever your lock screen wallpaper is, it will also be used as the incoming call background. So, even though you can’t directly add an image as the call background, you can set your lock screen wallpaper to be your desired background. For example, if you want to use your own photo, set it as your lock screen wallpaper and it will also appear as the call background.
To change the incoming call background, go to Call Settings > Advanced settings > Incoming call background and select Lock screen wallpaper.
7. Enable Missed Call Reminders
If you have a habit of forgetting or missing calls, the Missed Call Reminders option can be a life-saver. Your phone will remind you multiple times about missed calls.
You can set the number of reminders in the Call settings. To enable and set Missed Call Reminders, go to Call settings > Advanced settings > Missed Call Reminders.
8. Edit Carrier Name in the Status Bar
Our phones display the carrier name on the lock screen and in the status bar. But, do you want to keep a fancy name for it?
You can easily do that on Redmi devices. Whether you want to fool someone with a fake carrier name or just want to show your name in the status bar, this trick lets you do that.
To do so, go to device Settings. Note, you have to go to the device settings and not the Call settings. Then, tap the Notifications & status bar option.
Tap the Edit carrier name option and enter any name you like. For example, I will add Twothirds.Us.
Now, tap Show carrier name. If you want to display the name on the lock screen and status bar, choose Always show carrier name. If you prefer to show it only on the lock screen, select the first option.
If you choose to Always show carrier name, the name you entered will be shown in the status bar.
9. End Call With Power Button
One of the things I miss about phones with a physical keyboard is the ability to end calls with physical buttons. Now, on touchscreen phones, you have to find and tap the end call button on the screen.
Thankfully, some Android phones, like Redmi devices, have a buried feature that lets you end calls with the physical power button. We can use it as an alternative until manufacturers decide to remove this button, like they did with the 3.5mm headphone jack.
To enable this feature, go to device settings, then Additional settings, and tap on Accessibility.
Under Accessibility, enable the Power button ends call option. After enabling it, you can easily end calls by pressing the power button.
10. Create Notes While on a Call
Many times, you want to jot down things while you are on a call. Usually, we never find a pen and paper when we need them the most. Xiaomi developers know this and have provided an easy option to add notes while on a call. You don’t even need to leave the Phone app to create the notes. Just tap the Notes button on your dialer and you’ll be taken to the Notes app where you can create your notes.
Interestingly, the notes made via the Dialer app will be saved with the name of the person you were talking to. The notes will also have a phone icon next to them for easy differentiation.
We Want More!
Xiaomi offers good call customization features. However, some options are limited. We wish there was more freedom to customize according to preference.
