8 Ways to Fix iPad and iPhone Stuck on Siri Suggestions
All Apple users are familiar with the phrase ‘Hey Siri’. However, you don’t always need to ask Siri to get things done. With the Siri Suggestions feature, you get relevant recommendations tailored to your needs when searching or typing on your device’s lock or Home screen. However, what happens when your iPad or iPhone gets stuck on Siri Suggestions? If you’re facing this issue, keep reading to fix it.
Siri Suggestions can be helpful, but they can also freeze your device’s screen. If your iPad or iPhone gets stuck on Siri Suggestions, try fixing your device before proceeding with the solutions. Now, let’s begin.
1. Connect to the Charger, Force Close, and Restart Device
Restart your device to close all features and functions and start fresh. If you’re having trouble using Siri Suggestions on your iPhone or iPad, connect your device to a charger and power it off. Here’s how:
Step 1: Connect your device to a charger. Then follow the steps below based on your device model:
– For iPhone SE 1st gen, 5s, 5c, and 5: Long-press the top button.
– For iPhone SE 2nd gen onwards, 7, and 8: Long-press the side button.
– For iPhone X and above: Long-press both the power and any volume button simultaneously.
To reset your iPad, follow these steps:
1. For iPad without Home Button: Press and hold the power button and any volume button simultaneously.
2. For iPad with Home Button: Press and hold the power button.
3. Hold and drag the slider till the end.
That’s it! Your iPad will be reset.
Wait for some time and long press the power button. After your device finishes restarting, try using Siri Suggestions. If it still gets stuck, continue with the following fix.
A soft reset is a different type of reset that allows you to refresh your device without losing data, even if Siri Suggestions have made it unresponsive.
To perform a soft reset on an iOS 16 or higher device, follow these steps:
1. Press and release the volume up button.
2. Next, press and release the volume down button.
3. Quickly press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
Release the button and wait for your device to restart. For soft resetting other iPhone models, refer to the Apple Support page for instructions. Enter your password, if necessary, and retry using Siri Suggestions.
3. Disable and Enable Siri Suggestions
If you often encounter Siri Suggestions getting stuck, you can disable them in the Settings app and then enable them again to see if the issue is resolved. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Siri & Search’.
Step 3: In the Before Searching section, disable Show Suggestions.
Step 4: Scroll down to the ‘Content From Apple’ section and disable the toggles for ‘Show in Look Up’ and ‘Show in Spotlight’.
Step 5: Wait a few seconds, then enable the toggles again. Now, test the Siri Suggestion feature on your device.
4. Remove Siri Suggestions From the Widget Stack
The Siri Suggestions widget stack is useful for accessing frequently used apps. However, it can interfere with using Siri Suggestions separately. To fix this, remove the Siri Suggestions widget from the Smart Stack of widgets on your device. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Long-press any empty space on your Home screen or the Siri Suggestions widget stack until options appear.
Step 2: Find the Siri Suggestions widget stack and tap the – icon.
Step 3: Tap Remove to confirm.
After removing the Siri Suggestions widget stack, use Siri Suggestions again to see if the problem is fixed. If not, try the next possible solution.
5. Delete Siri History
To assist Apple in understanding how you use Siri, your interaction history is stored on Apple’s servers for a limited time. However, this history can hinder Siri Suggestions on your device. To remedy this, you can delete Siri’s search and dictation history. Here’s how:
1. Open Settings and select ‘Siri & Search’.
2. Tap ‘Siri & Dictation History’.
Step 3: Tap ‘Delete Siri & Dictation History’.
Deleting Siri’s interaction history removes the data from Apple’s servers.
Updating to the latest iOS and iPadOS ensures that your device can access the newest software features and bug fixes. If Siri Suggestions on the lock screen won’t go away due to a system bug, installing the next update with the bug fix should resolve it. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap General.
Step 3: Tap Software Update.
If there’s an update, download and install it. Then, restart your device and try using Siri Suggestions again on your iPhone or iPad.
7. Reset Your Device
Resetting your device will restore it to its original factory settings. This process will remove all saved Wi-Fi passwords, privacy settings, and more. If Siri Suggestions are not working properly, resetting your device may fix the issue caused by a glitch or incorrect setting.
