8 Ways to Fix Instagram Not Working, Loading, or Crashing Issue
Instagram, which is now owned by Facebook, generally functions effectively. However, users frequently encounter unexpected issues and errors. Certain individuals have expressed frustration with Instagram not working, while others have reported problems with loading or crashing. Although these may appear to be distinct problems, they often have similar solutions. Consequently, I have compiled a concise guide to address these issues.
1. Update Phone’s OS
Android is not popular for receiving OS updates on time. This is true for most phone makers. However, if you are using a customized OS like OxygenOS or MIUI, updates are pushed and available as soon as possible.
To check for Android OS updates, go to Settings > About phone > System update. Install any available updates. Make sure your phone is plugged into a power source to avoid running out of battery during the update.
2. Reinstall Instagram
Most apps release bug fixes through regular updates, and Instagram is no exception. Open the Play Store and select My apps & games from the menu.
Check for any pending updates for Instagram, particularly if you are part of Instagram’s beta testing program. If an update is available, install it, open Instagram, and see if the app still crashes or fails to load.
If updating the app doesn’t work, reinstall it. Before that, check point 6 below to learn how to delete all app data.
Open your favorite browser on a computer or smartphone and check if Instagram is loading. If it is working, use it temporarily. If it is not loading, the problem may not be on your end. Read the next point for more details.
4. Instagram Is Down
I have noticed that Instagram was down for many people. One quick way to check if Instagram is working is to use Down Detector. Bookmark it, and thank me later.
The app experienced three recent service disruptions, impacting various app functions. Websites like Down Detector provide real-time outage maps to determine the extent of the issue, whether it is widespread or localized. These websites typically utilize servers globally to improve content delivery speed.
The steps will depend on the antivirus app you are using. First, disable antivirus to check if it resolves the Instagram error. If yes, some setting in your antivirus is blocking the app. If nothing happens, move on to the next point. Maybe Instagram is not whitelisted, blocked, or given necessary permissions. Go through the antivirus app to make sure everything is in order.
6. Delete Cache and Data
Old data and cache files can affect an app’s functionality. Deleting these files won’t require you to sign in again. Go to Settings, tap on Manage apps, and find and open Instagram.
Tap ‘Clear data’ at the bottom and select ‘Clear all data’ and ‘Clear both’.
Go back, sign in to Instagram, and check again.
Go back to where you deleted cache, and you will see App permissions. Make sure that services you want to use with Instagram app have necessary permissions.
Heading back, you’ll also notice other permissions. Double-check if the necessary permissions are enabled.
8. Network or Data Issue
Have you checked your data plan? Maybe you ran out of data? Connect to Wi-Fi to check if Instagram is loading. It’s also possible that there is a network issue. Ask a friend on a different network if they can access Instagram.
Open Settings and tap on Reset Wi-Fi, mobile, and Bluetooth. For iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, tap on General, and select Reset. Choose Reset Network Settings, without changing any other options.
Note that you will need to reconnect with saved Wi-Fi networks. Make sure to note the passwords before you begin.
These solutions will help fix Instagram loading, working, or crashing errors. Some tricks can also be used for other apps behaving oddly. Let us know if you found another way.
