8 Best Ways to Fix Do Not Disturb Turning on Automatically on Mac
Do Not Disturb allows you to create a distraction-free environment on your Mac. However, when DND turns on automatically, it can lead to mistakes and errors. This can cause you to miss important emails, messages, notifications, and calls during work hours. Here are the best ways to fix automatic Do Not Disturb activation on Mac.
Apple has rebranded Do Not Disturb as Focus on Mac. DND is one of the built-in Focus modes on Mac. When Do not disturb mode keeps turning on automatically, it can disrupt your workflow on Mac. Let’s fix the problem once and for all and start receiving instant alerts on Mac.
1. Disable Do Not Disturb Automation on Mac
macOS allows you to enable “do not disturb” at a specific time or location, or when opening a particular app. If you have set up a schedule for this feature in System Settings, follow these steps to disable it: Step 1: Click the Apple icon on the top-left corner of the menu bar and select System Settings.
Step 2: Select Focus from the sidebar.
Step 3: Select Do Not Disturb from the right pane.
Click the automated schedule under the ‘Set a Schedule’ section.
Step 5: Select Delete Schedule from the menu.
macOS won’t automatically enable DND after that.
Enabling do not disturb on iPhone or iPad and sharing the same status with other devices in the Apple ecosystem is a perk of the system. If you enable do not disturb on iPhone, it will also enable it on your Mac. To disable this behavior, open the Settings app on iPhone.
Scroll down to tap Focus.
Step 3: Disable the ‘Share Across Devices’ toggle.
3. Recheck Notification Permission for Mac Apps
If you disabled DND and still aren’t receiving notifications from installed apps, you need to check your notification permissions in System Settings and make any necessary changes. Here’s how:
Step 1: Click the Apple icon on the top-left corner of the menu bar and select System Settings.
Step 2: Go to Notifications and choose the app you want to adjust.
Step 3: Enable Allow notifications and select Banners. Alerts should appear in the upper-right corner and go away automatically.
4. Reboot Notification Center Using Terminal
If “Do Not Disturb” still turns on automatically on your Mac, you can reboot the Notification Center by following these steps.
Step 1: Open Terminal on your Mac.
STEP 2: Please review the provided text and eliminate any redundant words or phrases to make the content more concise and impactful.
Notification Center on your Mac will turn off and restart. Close Terminal to start receiving notifications as usual.
5. Allow Notifications When Mirroring or Sharing the Display
Are you still experiencing problems with Mac alerts even after fixing the automatic “Do Not Disturb” issue? Make sure to enable notifications when the display is locked, sleeping, and when you mirror or share your Mac with an external screen.
Step 1: Click the Apple icon at the top-left corner of the menu bar and choose System Settings. Step 2: In the left sidebar, select Notifications. Enable the toggles for “Allow notifications when the display is sleeping,” “Allow notifications when the screen is locked,” and “Allow notifications when mirroring or sharing the display.”
6. Disable Do Not Disturb from Messaging Apps
Apps like Slack and Microsoft Teams have a do not disturb mode to pause notifications during inactive hours. If you have enabled DND from such apps, disable it. Let’s take Slack as an example.
Step 1: Launch the Slack app on your Mac.
Step 2: Click your account at the top-right corner.
Step 3: Expand ‘Pause notifications’ and select ‘Set a notification schedule.’
Step 4: Allow notifications during work hours to avoid missing important messages from colleagues.
7. Exclude Important Apps from DND
Does “Do Not Disturb” still activate automatically on Mac? You can exempt work apps such as Teams and Skype from DND to receive immediate notifications from them.
Step 1: Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the menu bar and select System Settings.
Step 2: Select Focus from the left sidebar.
Step 3: Select Do Not Disturb from the right pane.
Step 4: Select ‘Allowed Apps’ and add.
Step 5: Select important apps from the menu and add them.
8. Update macOS
To fix the issue of Do Not Disturb turning on automatically on your Mac, you may need to update your macOS to the latest version. Here’s what you can do:
1. Click the Apple icon at the top-left corner of the menu bar and select System Preferences.
2. In the System Preferences menu, choose Software Update from the options.
3. If there’s an update available, click on the Update Now button to download and install the latest macOS version.
Download and install the latest macOS update on your Mac.
