7 Best Ways to Fix Nest Speaker Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi Network
Google’s Nest speakers have made the Google Assistant accessible from any corner of your home or office. There are many cool Google Assistant features like getting news updates, playing music, reminders, and controlling smart home devices. However, you need to connect the speaker to the internet.
Nest devices perform tasks while connected to your Wi-Fi. So, if a speaker can’t connect to the internet, you won’t be able to use its full functionality. If your Nest Speaker can’t connect to a Wi-Fi network or keeps disconnecting, here are some methods to solve the problem.
1. Restart Your Wi-Fi Router
The first step is to rule out a problem with your Wi-Fi router. Restart the router and then try connecting your Nest speaker again.
You can also restart the Nest speaker and check if it connects to the network.
2. Move the Nest Speaker Closer to the Wi-Fi Router
If you place the Nest speaker too far from the Wi-Fi router, it may be out of range and unable to connect. This can happen if the router is in the living room and the speaker is far away in a bedroom or on a different floor.
Try moving the Nest speaker closer to the Wi-Fi router or consider getting a Mesh Wi-Fi router for a large house. Boosting your Wi-Fi signal may also make a difference.
3. Connect to a 2.4GHz Network
The 2.4GHz frequency band is more crowded than 5GHz. We recommend connecting smart home devices to 2.4GHz as some lack support for 5GHz. Even if the router supports the band, you’ll get longer range with 2.4GHz.
If your Nest speaker is far from the Wi-Fi router, connect it to the 2.4GHz band for better range.
4. Forget the Network and Reconnect the Speaker
Suppose you’ve previously connected to a 5GHz network or are connected to a functional network that isn’t working on the Nest speaker. In that case, it’s a good idea to forget the network and reconnect with the speaker. Here’s how you can do it.
Step 1: Open the Google Home app on the smartphone you used to set up the Nest speaker.
Step 2: See all connected devices and speakers on the phone’s screen. Choose the speaker not connecting to the network.
Step 3: Tap the Setting icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 4: In the General category, choose Device information.
Step 5: Tap on the Forget button next to the Wi-Fi information.
Step 6: Select Forget Network in the prompt.
The phone will disconnect your Wi-Fi network. Go back to the main screen on the Google Home app, and you’ll find an option to reconfigure the Nest speaker. Connect to a Wi-Fi network of your choosing.
Note: If you’ve changed your Wi-Fi router’s password after pairing the speaker, you’ll need to forget the network and set it up again with the new password.
5. Remove the Speaker and Re-Add It
The Google Home app allows you to remove a linked device and set it up again. If forgetting the network and re-adding it didn’t solve the problem, you can try removing the device and unlinking it from your Google account before adding it again. Follow these steps:
1. Open the Google Home app on your smartphone.
2. Go to the Devices section.
3. Find the device you want to remove.
4. Tap on the device and select Remove.
5. Confirm the removal.
6. Go back to the main screen and tap on the Settings gear icon.
7. Scroll down and select Linked Accounts.
8. Tap on the account associated with the device you removed.
9. Select Unlink and confirm.
10. Exit the app.
11. Set up the device again by following the initial setup process.
Step 2: See your connected devices and speakers on your phone’s screen. Choose the speaker not connecting to the network.
Step 3: Tap on the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 4: Select the Remove device button at the bottom.
Step 5: Tap Remove to disconnect the device from your account.
Return to the main screen on the Google Home app, and you will see the option to set up the Nest speaker from scratch.
6. Check the Device Limit of Your Wi-Fi Router
Most routers have a limit on the number of connected devices. When this limit is reached, new devices cannot connect. Check your router’s configuration page to see if a limit is set.
If your router has an accompanying app, you can use it to remove any limit. Also, ensure that the router doesn’t block Nest speaker.
7. Factory Reset the Nest Speaker
If nothing works, factory reset your Nest speaker or device. This should fix any network and connectivity issues. The steps to factory reset it will vary based on the Nest speaker or device you have. Follow Google’s guide to reset your Nest device and set it up again via the Google Home app.
Connect Your Nest Speaker to the Internet
Following these steps should help you restore internet connectivity on your Nest speaker, allowing you to use all features without facing network errors.
